Everything you wanted to know about goatscaping on Kauai

About the Goats

Goats love weeds, grass, brush, vines, brambles, and most invasive plants. They especially enjoy Guinea grass, blackberry, lantana, young guava, and many common Kauai invasives. They eat leaves, stems, and bark, often targeting the plants you most want gone.
Goats generally avoid plants that are toxic to them, they have good instincts. They also typically won't eat mature tree trunks, most ornamental plants, or plants you want to keep. We always do a walkthrough first to identify what you want protected so we can keep the goats away from those areas.
It depends on the job size. Small residential jobs typically use a small herd of 4-8 goats. Larger properties may call for 12-20 or more. We scale the herd to match the work.

Safety & Your Family

Yes! Our goats are friendly and accustomed to people. Kids absolutely love them. We do ask that children are supervised around the goats, and that they don't feed them without asking us first, some human foods aren't good for goats.
We ask that dogs are kept away from the grazing area during work. Most dogs are curious and excitable around goats, which can stress the herd and disrupt their grazing. We'll set up a clear boundary and ask that dogs stay on the other side while the goats are working.
We tether the goats and move them through your property in managed sections. In jungle terrain, tethering works better than fencing and gives us precise control over where they graze. We've never had an escapee, these animals know their routine.
Not necessarily. We're on-site to manage the herd, but you don't need to babysit us. We check in with you at the start and end of each day. Many clients just go about their normal routine.

The Process

Small jobs (1-2 plots) typically take 2-3 days. Medium properties take a week or more. We give you a time estimate after we see the property, terrain density and overgrowth levels affect this significantly.
Never. Zero chemicals, herbicides, or pesticides, ever. That's kind of the whole point. Your land stays clean, your water table stays safe, and your family can walk the cleared area right away.
We're on Kauai, rain happens! Light to moderate rain doesn't stop the goats. They'll keep grazing. Heavy, sustained rain may pause operations for safety, and we'll reschedule those days at no extra cost to you.
Yes, eventually, this is Kauai! But goats eat plants down to the root, which slows regrowth significantly compared to mowing. Our maintenance grazing plans keep things in check year-round so it never gets bad again.
Cleared land and a little natural fertilizer! Goat droppings break down quickly and actually enrich your soil with nitrogen. Any large woody debris that the goats can't eat may remain, but we can arrange cleanup for an additional fee if needed.
